9:40 SYMPOSIUM: We Must “Run With Endurance” . . . INTRODUCTION: Our daily decisions play a large role in determining whether we remain steadfast; the bible compares our efforts to competing in a foot race in what way are you running? A marathon is an endurance contest. They must endure the lengthe and the unpredictable conditions. For example the New York Marathon was won in 1994 during the hottest and most humid conditions and in 1995 was the coldsest. We are in a figurative race for life and equally face difficult conditions and we need to run it with endurance. Heb 12:1 - PART 1 Run to Win! ( 1 Corinthians 9:24 )
Christians need to be determined to win regardless of the conditions we face ( 1 Corinthians 9:24 ). Our determination is not to overtake others but to continue our struggle against ourselves, discouragement the world around. To do this must run with purpose, meaning recognize the purpose is our love for Jehovah. We cannot be a "fair weather runner" or run to please others. 2 Tim 4:2
- train to overcome obstacles - run as if giving up is not an option - refuse to contemplate doing what Jehovah hates - strengthen our resolve - meditate on what it will be like to win
VIDEO #1 Sister thinks about her active theocratic career and fights the urge to despair now her strength has dwindled (Rom 12:12) Cube 2 Pet 3:9 says Jehovah desires all of us to win. The end of our race is near, keep your eyes fixed on the finish.

9:40 SYMPOSIUM: We Must “Run With Endurance” . . . - PART 2 Train Diligently (1 Corinthians 9:25-27 )
Atheletes train diligently and are consciencious when it comes to training to do this the need self discipline. Christians likewise need to exercise self control (1 Corinthians 9:25 ). A successful athlete doesn't endulge himself and keeps his focus and we too must keep focused on our goal (verse 25b and verse 26). The prize was displayed in full view of the atheletes as they ran and we too must not be distracted away from our good spiritual routine that helps us build spiritual strength so we do not waste time or miss direct our efforts (meetings, study, ministry).
Apply the principle of being persistent Proverbs 24:16
VIDEO #2 Brother realizes neglecting is spiritual routine left the door open to yearning for old habits (smoking); itself a symptom of not being as focused as he should be " in all things" We must discipline ourselves to reject things that are harmful, pummeling ("strictly discipline") literally "hit" our imperfect selves ( 1 Corinthians 9:27 ). We need strictly avoid materialism, immorality, unclean lifestyles if we are not to be disqualified even if doing so is painful. How is our spiritual training program? - PART 3 Let Go of Unnecessary Burdens ( Hebrews 12:1)
"So, then, because we have such a great cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also throw off every weight and the sin that easily entangles us,+ and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us" -Heb 12:1
Hebrews 12:1 urges us to identify and eliminate any weights that could slow us down in the race for life. We do not shirk our personal responsibilities or compare ourselves to others or who we were in the past (Gal 6:5 ). We may have children or elderly parents, we must keep going. Cliff Young a toothless man ran with golishes ran in a shuffle, he never stops 5 days and 15 hours later he won the race. Even if we hobble along don't worry, keep going.
Still we avoid needless self imposed weight to ourselves. Things such as anxiety over past mistakes, resentment over other people's actions
VIDEO #3 Brother suffers spiritually until he recognizes and eliminates the burden of materialism. Ask Jehovah to help you identify and let go of them, ask him to carry the load of legitimate responsibilities, Jehovah's spirit will carry you like the wind at your back.

9:40 SYMPOSIUM: We Must “Run With Endurance” . . . - PART 4 Imitate Good Examples ( Hebrews 12:2, 3 )
Runners look to more experienced runners to be successful. We need to "look intently" and "consider closely" the example of Jesus. Jesus was a keen student of the bible (Luke 2:47), he kept his eye ont he prize (Heb 12:2). We will not become exhausted if we run with Jesus and follow the example of faithful men like Isaiah that ran for over 46 years (Mat 11:29; Jam 5:10; Isaiah 6:10). Daniel is another good example of endurance who was compared to Noah and Job when only still a teenager (Ez 14:14). After 80 years he was viewed as "precious" because he never gave up despirte various tests and conditions (Dan 10:11).
We have other examples both ancient and modern to "imitate their faith" (Phil 3:?, Heb 11) VIDEO #4 Shy sister imitates the example of a zealous sister Alison, in her congregation. It took humility for the shy sister to approach and apply what they learn from others. Who are you watching and who is watching us?

9:40 SYMPOSIUM: We Must “Run With Endurance” . . . - PART 5 Eat Nutritious Food ( Hebrews 5:12-14 )
Bad nutrion can ruin a race, likewise regular nutrious spiritual food is necessary if we are to finish our race. We need "solid food" not those that stay with the elementary things, the basics. By prayerfully meditating on what we read from the bible asking ourselves how can I apply this information, what do I learn about Jehovah how can I use this information to help others? Doing so will help us grow strong, overcome fatigue. Just as atheletes need to qvoid empty calories in junk food according to the Watchtower July 4th, 1994 refers to any material that errods our faith ( 1 Cor 10:21 ). We will all face trials and it is the nourishment from the bible accessed by the Watchtower library and the research guide which can help us cope with the most personal, intimate issues of life.
VIDEO #5 Rebecca struggles with issues at school: after school activities, evolution, choosing a career. She takes her mother's advice and learnt to study deeply.
We cannot wait until the last minute before feeding ourselves spiritually, we need to build spiritual reservse now so the holy spirit can help us recall them when needed ( John 14:26)

9:40 SYMPOSIUM: We Must “Run With Endurance” . . . - PART 6 Drink Plenty of Water ( Revelation 22:17 )
The bible invites us to "drink life's water free" (Rev 22:7), this refers to all the provisions provided by Jehovah to gain everlasting life, including the ransom. One such provision is the bible which is likened water. God's word the bible...
. Samson begged Jehovah for literal water after his killed the Philistines, recognizing his need for it to refresh and replenish him. Likewise, the bible is essential if we are going to keep our strength up. - cleanses The the temple basin held sufficient water for the priests to wash and suitably fulfill their duties, God's word which has a cleansing effect which will protect us and help us keep to Jehovah's standards ( Eph 5:26 ) [/li] [/ul] VIDEO #6 Emphasises the need for daily bible reading to stay morally and spiritually clean; a married brother check his behavior regarding a worldly aquaintanceWe cannot postpone reading the bible until we feel we need it, it may be too late. As with the six Cities of Refuge we must have to make the consciouse choice to stay within its boundaries ( Numbers ). Do not allow the love of this world to draw us out of the confines of the truth. We need to cherish and appreciate Jehovah's provision.

9:40 SYMPOSIUM: We Must “Run With Endurance” . . . - PART 7 Obey the Rules of the Contest (2 Timothy 2:5 )
The ancient Greek games had rules which were strictly imposed by the judges if a runner violated these rules his run was invalidated (1 Tim 2:5). We are in a figurative race and we must adhere to "the rules" which are set by Jehovah God and recorded in the bible. Following bible rules and principles is vital if we are to succeed. Today people want to set their own standards, but we must worship in the way God approves. God's requirements are reasonble and loving and if we follow them it will always be to our benefit (1 John 4:8 ; Psalms 19:2 ). We obey not out of duty but out of love (1 John 5:3 )
Athletes and soldiers cannot affort to waste time with things that detract from their objectives (2 Timothy 2:3, 4 ) Living in Satan's world we are being constantly pressured to conform to his standards. VIDEO #7 A married couple learn the value of obeying Jehovah's intructions to repair a loveless marriage (Is 48:17)The same principles apply to any other aspect of life, we need to continue to discern the wisdom behind God's requirements.

9:40 SYMPOSIUM: We Must “Run With Endurance” . . . - PART 8 Be Confident of Gaining the Prize ( Romans 15:13 )
"May the God who gives hope fill you with all joy and peace by your trusting in him, so that you may abound in hope with power of holy spirit" -Rom 15:13
Payments or rewards help us to keep going. We need to keep in mind our reward future and present rewards ( Heb 11:6 ). If our hope "abounds" in us we will be able to keep a joyful peaceful heart, avoid doubt and will perservere.
Build our confidence through prayer. Never lose confident in the value of prayer even if we have been waiting for a solution for our problem for a long time ( Luke 18:13 ) Jehovah will answer our prayers don't grow weary of asking in faith. Jehovah is interested in all those he loves and is actively looking to answer our prayers by means of the bible, by means of his holy spirit and the brotherhood. Please pray for specific members of your congregation VIDEO #8 A brother suffers a stroke, prayer helps him endure his handicap. CONCLUSION This symposium has shown how we can be successful in the race for life. The race will not weaken us it will make us strong, keep our hope alive, confident Jehovah will help us. Our reward is close, don't give up!

11:20 The problems of modern life are complicated, however the bible assures us that no one's situation is hopeless
(Isaiah 48:17 ; Jeremiah 29:11 )
"For I well know the thoughts that I am thinking toward you,’ declares Jehovah, ‘thoughts of peace, and not of calamity, to give you a future and a hope" -Jeremiah 29:11
INTRODUCTION Florence Chadwick's initial attempt to swim from Catalina to the Coast of California failed because she gave up hope. The fact that the fog obscured how close she was to her goal, she was successful on her second attempt because she visualized her goal which invigorated her. We live in We live in difficult times hard to deal with, we can feel lonely lost, overwhelmed. We too must hold on firmly to our hope.
How do we benefit from having hope? Sometimes the fog lifts only to reveal a mountain, but positive thinking produces results. Biblical hope is as sure as the sun rising in the morning and with Jehovah's help us covercome mountainous problems.
) Avoid sources of discouragement and negative people. - Hope is an "anchor for our soul" ( Heb 6:19). Hope helps us keep our mental, spiritual and emotional equilibrium. Jehovah is there to support us during the bad times.[/ul] Jehovah is our greatest hope booster Isaiah 48:17 and he has provided the bible to give us hope. VIDEO #8 Serge: who suffered from low self esteem and contemplated suicide. He comments Jehovah didn't abandon him even when he did not know Him. (Hebrews 13 )VIDEO #9 Doris: The bible also gives hope to those that have enjoyed a measure of success but still felt that "something was missing".The bible can provide a real hope the future as expressed through God's kingdom (Jer 29:11). We will have many blessings as outlined through Isaish 65:21-23 We can believe the beautiful promises because God has both the ability and the desire to fulfill these promises. Studying the bible is a means to increase our confidence in these promises.
