<< Mosaic Law [Murder] >>QUESTION: [Genesis v8:6 & v8:9 say Noah sent out a raven & dove after 40 days, but the dove came back finding no land. [...] Then, in v8:10-11, he waited another 7 days for a total of 47 days [...]. Doesn’t this contradict both previous accounts of 40 days and 150 days? No. The reader should not confuse the 40 days of rain at the beginning of the flooding with the 40 days following the appearance of the mountains as the waters receded. The Chapter 8 is written, more or less chronological order. Following the date order it reads Notice the last date markers as being the 10th month appearance of the mountain tops. Logically then the 40 days would mean forty days after this event. DRY or NOT DRY?Why does Genesis state in Chapter 8 verse 13 state that the waters "were dried up" and then in the following verse state that it wasn't until two months later that "the earth dried" ?While many English translations (such as the King James Version quoted above) make little distinction between the condition of the ground (earth) in both verses, the verses actually use two different Hebrew words: " chareb" and " yabesh". While both can be translated to the English word "dry" they actually refer to different degrees of dryness. Thus the New Word Translation reads as follows "Noah removed the covering of the ark and saw that the surface of the ground was drying. 14 In the second month, on the 27th day of the month, the earth had dried off."
