QUESTIONS FOR REVIEW
Walk By Faith [DVD] [/b] "The first fulfillment, the “standing in a holy place” occurred in 66 C.E. when the Roman army (“the disgusting thing”) attacked Jerusalem and its temple (a place holy in the eyes of the Jews)." w13 7/15 p. 4 par 6 Jesus said when that happened that those in the midth of her withdraw. [ Ziph, answers this correctly during a family study; when it was fulfilled Ethan lead an elders meeting where the decision was taken to flee] (2) Why did fleeing from the city require faith? There was fear of the unknown, Rachel said she had never lived anywhere but Jérusalem. They worred about how they would be provided for, winter was approaching... but as Shebuel said "We have to trust that Jehovah has a better view of the situation". On the trip to Pella, Shebuel admitted "there were so many things we just didn't understand" but they trusted Jehovah enough to obey. (3) What sacrifices were involved in fleeing? They had to leave their businesses, unbelieving family and belongings. Naham was unsure about leaving his business because it was everything he's worked for. (4) Why did Naham and Abital delay? (Matt. 24:17, 18) Naham said he wanted more time to prepare and put their affairs in order but he actually re-opened the shop to profit from increased sales for those that celebrated the Roman withdrawal. In the end they spent too much time packing too many things (bags on bags). (5) What additional test of faith did Rachel face when leaving Jerusalem? (Matt. 10:34-37; Mark 10:29, 30) Her brother Bariah was not a believer and she was torn between her love for him and her loyalty to Jehovah. (6) How did Ethan set a fine example of faith and trust in Jehovah? He only took essentials as Jesus instructed and encouraged Shebual and others. He stayed focused on obeying Jesus and viewed his life in Pella as a blessing. (7) What hardships did Christians experience in Pella? Life was harder than in Jerusalem and they had to make adjustements, for example they had to do hard physical work and make do with meagre provisions. Naham complained about not being able to make a decent living and Abitail wanted her own home and her own things around her.(8) How did the faith of Naham and Abital gradually weaken? They focused on the negative and didn't appreciate the provisions they had. They were looking behind instead of investing in a new life in Pella. (9) How did Jehovah care for the Christians living in Pella? (Matt. 6:33; 1 Tim. 6:6-8) The brothers sent food and they helped each other. (10) How can we imitate Abraham and Sarah as we face the end of this system of things? (Heb. 11:8-10) Ethan pointed out they left a wealthy city to live in tents and never went back. We must not look behind and cultivate contentment and faith in Jehovah's promises. Focus, not on the end but on the more important things ahead. (11) How did Naham and Abital convince themselves to return to Jerusalem, and why was their thinking faulty? (Luke 21:21)They believed the political situation was Jehovah's deliverance of "the holy city", forgetting Jesus warnings that Jérusalem would be destroyed and should be avoided. They believed they could profit from the apparent delay in the destruction and figured the end could be hundreds of years away. They didn't believe the reports about the gravity of conditions in Jerusalem. (12) What was the reality of life in Jerusalem when Naham and Abital returned? Jérusalem was nothing like it was when they left; there was famine, disease and violence. [Beriah's letter described it as "a ravenous beast that feeds on its own flesh, describing murders even in the temple] Tens of thousands had died. The Roman army was approaching. Once there there was no escape. (13) Why must we strengthen our faith now—before the end of this system of things comes?— Luke 17: 31, 32; 21:34-36.Because it will help us make the right décisions, not to let material things be the motivating force. To make décisions to make décisions that defy conventional décisions and to stick to those décisions. [/ul]
