SOJJ: #6: The Heavens Declare God’s Glory ( Psalms19 - See also Ps. 111:9; 145:5; Rev. 4:11) www.jw.org/en/library/music-songs/sing-out-joyfully/6-the-heavens-declare-gods-glory/?media=sjjcDifferent time: Luke for the most part reports in chronological order. Just prior it is reported that John, evidently still alive, sends a message to Jesus. Note John was killed early in Jesus 3 year ministry evidently at the end of his first Judean tour around November 30CE. Luke reports that "soon after" the encounter with the unnamed sinful woman, Jesus embarked on another teaching tour (see Luke 8:1) evidently then, Luke is not placing the events in Jesus final week. Different place: While John clearly places events in Judea, in or around Jerusalem, Luke does not. Although the location of Simon The Pharisees house is not specifically stated, there are a number of contextual markers that indicate the events were in Galilee rather than in or around Bethany. Jesus is reported in Luke just prior to have been in the cities of Capernaum and Nain (both in Galilee) and the next specific marker is of Gerasenes also in Galilee. Prior to which Luke reports Jesus giving a series of lectures on the them of the kingdom which, if they are the same as those reported in Matthew would again be in Galilee. (Matthew speaks of them being given specifically from one of the disciples boats by a lakeside). Different host: Although the host is identified as Simon, he is refered to as Simon the Pharisee, not Simon the Leper. The surnames and nicknames are usually used in the gospels to distinguish individuals especially from those who might share the same first name (compare John 11:16; Luke 6:15). NOTE: The name Simon was extremely popular in Jesus’ day, The Greek scriptures lists nine men named Simon, including two of Jesus’ disciples and one of his brothers. Different woman: At the time of the meal this woman had a reputation as a sinful woman and Simon's reflection iimplies that she was a stranger to Jesus whereas John clearly identifies Mary of Bethany as a close personal friend and this well before the events reported during Jesus last week (compare Lk 7:39, John 11:5; 12:3) Source: www.jeanejones.net/2014/02/was-marthas-sister-mary-a-prostitute/
