Jesus often taught in a way that needed further explanation and is recorded as quoting Daniels "footnote" " let the reader use decernment". Often after Jesus' discourses, his disciples had to seek a private audience with him because they didn't understand the truths he had spoken. And sometimes even after the explanation they STILL didn't understand because they were not spiritually mature enough to grasp them. Jesus explained himself his extensive use of illustration (metaphor, similie, symbolism, etc) in Matthew 13, speaking of the general population, he stated ... So Jesus often taught using methods that made the deeper truths hard to see without effort. He did this because he wanted only those with humble and sincere hearts, to see those truths. Jehovah's Witnesses believe that understanding scripture is not an intellectual right its a spiritual gift. JW
