“He will be great in the sight of Jehovah" - Luke 1:15
QUESTION: Why did Matthew say there was a prophecy that Jesus would be called a Nazarene (Mat 2:23)?Regarding the Hebrew scripures, the name Narareth literally in Hebrew means "Sprout Town" (from the hebrew 'sprout': Netser). Matthew may well have been linking this with scriptures that refer to the Messiah being of the "sprout" of Jesse as well as Zechariah who describes the prophecied king saying " his name is Sprout" (see Matthew 2: 19 - 23 , Zech 3: 8, 6: 12, 13) Regarding the substantive nature of Matthew's reference the Pulpit Commentary state: SOJJ: #8: Jehovah Is Our Refuge ( Psalms 91 - See also Ps. 97:10 ; 121:3, 5 ; Isa. 52:12) www.jw.org/en/library/music-songs/sing-out-joyfully/8-jehovah-is-our-refuge/?media=sjjcI would point out that since the bible has an outstanding record of archeological accuracy, educated historians are very wary of concluding that lack of present day evidence (which is NOT the case regarding Nazareth) equates inaccuracies. Time and time again, the bible has finally been proven right in this type of matter. ** Towns historically go through name changes (and are often given different names depending on who inhabits them and when; for example present day Istanbul was previously known as Constantinople; so indeed the Nazareth of Jesus day may be what was identified by another name during another period).

"Moreover, being given divine warning in a dream, he withdrew into the territory of Galilee" - Mat 2:22b GALILEE 25 miles by 18 miles ( n to s) NEW YORK CITY 26 miles long and 17 miles wide. * E. W. G. Masterman in his article entitled Galilee in the Time of Christ (Vol. 32, No. 6 pub Dec., 1908), pp.(The University of Chicago Press), pointed out that " [Galilee in the time of Christ] was a small land, by no means so large as the natural boundaries would suggest. ..
