Rev 20:9 fosterheologicalreflections.blogspot.fr/2012/11/does-revelation-209-necessarily-rule.html#QUESTION: What about the passages that speak about "the lake of fire" (Revelation 19: 20; 20: 11-15)? Revelation 20: 10 "And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet [are], and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever." (Also see Revelation 21: 8) -- King James Version Far from teaching a place of eternal torture where the dead are made to suffer Revelation 21:10, 8 are simply a symbolic passages. The symbolism is explained in verse 8 itelf which says "the lake [...] is the second death". Death (being the opposite of life) is always depicted in scripture as a state of inactivity, unconsciousness and inexistence. ASLO Note the following : 1) "Hell" itself is also thrown INTO the Lake of Fire (Rev 20:14). Obviously, then hell and the Lake of Fire are two separate things. How can HELL be burnt? (see below for references) 2) "Death" is thrown into the lake of Fire: Death is a condition, it doesn't burn and cannot be made to suffer. What do YOU think that means?!
